Annual thanksgiving service for the work of Safeguarding Coordinators

More than 80 Safeguarding Coordinators and clergy gathered for the annual service in Leicester Cathedral to give thanks and pray for their work within our churches, schools and chaplaincies.

In partnership with the diocesan Safeguarding Team, the service was planned by the Bishop of Leicester who recognises that safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults is at the heart of the Gospel, and therefore of our mission.

During prayers, which were led by Bishop Guli, everyone was invited to light a candle to remember one person for whom they wanted to pray within their safeguarding role.

Prayers included those for people who are vulnerable and in need of protection and people who are hurting and whose trust has been broken.

The readings were Psalm 139 and 1 Peter 1 v.3-12 and Bishop Martyn gave the address. Both of our Archdeacons and Sub-Dean Canon Alison Adams also supported the service.

Afterwards the congregation enjoyed refreshments. They were warmly thanked for their work and for attending the service.
