Bishop's Big Conversations in Rothley

Rothley parish was the destination for the seventh and final Bishop’s Big Conversation of the year, and proved to be a great ending to what’s been a really fruitful first twelve months of weekend missions. The weekend comprised of Bishop Martyn and a small team of ordinands/curates joining with the congregation of St Mary’s in a range of exciting faith sharing events. The weekends provide opportunities to listen, to share stories, to strengthen relationships with the wider community and to share our faith in Jesus with those who may not yet know him.

The latest weekend saw the Bishop and his team spend a morning in the local Primary School, an afternoon tea and drop-in, an evening when the Bishop engaged with questions of life and faith in a crowded local pub, a Men’s Breakfast, time spent in a Residential Retirement home, a fish and chip question and answers event with teenagers and two special “guest services” in church.  Bishop Martyn also found time in his schedule to officially switch on Rothley’s Christmas lights, before chatting to some of the crowd of about 20000 who had gathered for the seasonal turn on.

As with all of the Big Conversation weekends, the challenge is now for the local church to build on the success of the weekend, and to themselves find greater confidence in sharing their faith in an everyday manner every day.
