Historic moment as 21 people confirmed by Bishop Guli

Our most recent confirmations saw 21 people confirmed by Bishop Guli and marked an historic moment as she is thought to be the first female Bishop to confirm her own children into the Church of England.

The Goscote Deanery confirmations were held at St Peter and St Paul Church, Syston, on Sunday 22nd September.

Bishop Guli, who was herself confirmed by her own father in the 1980s when she was 16-years-old, said: “Confirmation services are one of the greatest privileges of being a bishop and a part of the role I hugely enjoy.

“It's always inspiring and humbling to hear the stories of those whose faith journey has brought them to be confirmed. At 21, this is the largest number I have yet confirmed in one service and the group included a good range of ages with a significant number of younger candidates. It was very special and a particular joy to confirm two of my own children.”

There were 12 candidates from the Fosse Team including Bishop Guli’s twins, five candidates from Rothley and four candidates from Stocking Farm and Beaumont Leys (two of whom were also baptised).

The youngest candidate was aged 10, and the group included several teenagers and adults.
