North West Leicestershire Deanery Try Praying Initiative

One of our Deaneries has successfully established a prayer initiative, thanks to a Growth Fund grant. They found inspiration for this project from the Try Praying initiative which aims to make prayer accessible to everyone outside of the church They found inspiration for this project from the Try Praying initiative which aims to make prayer accessible to everyone outside of the church.

27 churches throughout the Deanery worked together with the aim to:

  • Encourage many to start a conversation with God
  • Encourage many to take their first step on a journey to Jesus
  • Enable congregations to talk about their faith
  • Encourage the prayer life of congregations
  • Use the Trypraying books as a way of telling others that God cares and that he listens

Their plan was three pronged:

  • Every church had at least one Try Praying Banner displayed outside
  • They resourced every church with youth prayer booklets to give to children and young people within the church and in schools
  • Adult prayer booklets were given to the congregation and they were also encouraged to give these to their friends, neighbours and colleagues.

Overall they were able to give out over 700 prayer booklets to other people; from baptism families and wedding couples to their friends and neighbours.

This led to follow up alpha courses for people coming from outside the church and also to church members deepening their faith though prayer.
