Roots IWC launch Fusion

Roots, one of our Intercultural Worshiping Communities which aims to serve and enable more participation and leadership in church life by black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) worshippers, have begun a bi-monthly intercultural creative arts and story hub with a Christian ethos called Fusion.

Fusion brings together people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and age groups, exploring stories of Jesus and intercultural narratives from marginalised communities through creative arts. The name ‘Fusion’ relates to the interwoven-ness of people’s stories, and the possibility of bridging divides in society by cultivating relationships, making space for meaningful stories to be shared and expressed in the fusion of various different creative arts styles.

Their first session took place over the weekend on Zoom as the gathered community made Zines together. Zine is a basic instant book made from one sheet of paper. It is a simple and effective way of spreading a message using words and visual art including collage textures. They made Zine beak books using designs inspired by the African kanga fabrics of proverbs and exploring the theme of Ubuntu.

Intercultural Pioneer Minister at Roots, Vee Pinto told us more about Fusion: “Fusion is a beautiful vision that comes out of Roots. At Roots we want to celebrate our diverse cultural and ethnic roots and our identity as rooted together in Jesus and to learn from one another through listening deeply and celebrating each other’s gifts, passions, and unique qualities. This, we hope, will lead to personal and collective growth in understanding, bridging divides, and challenging prejudice within each of us.”
