What is the role of a Locally Authorised Minister?
Locally Authorised Ministers offer a range of ministries recognised by the local church, These could include:
- occasional preacher or worship leader
- small group leader
- children’s volunteer
- pastoral visitor
How are they authorised?
Locally Authorised Ministers are discerned by their local church and nominated by the PCC in collaboration with the designated incumbent. They will need to provide references, a DBS check and some safeguarding training. Locally Authorised Ministers are authorised for 3 years at a service in their local parish.
How are they trained?
There is no specific training required before authorisation but they can access any of the relevant training modules for Associate Ministers, be training within the Minister Community or request specific training from the Diocesan training team.
What happens after authorisation?
Ministry involves life-long learning and this is supported through:
- an annual ministry review
- continuing ministerial learning programme
