The aim of the Ministry Experience Scheme (MES) is to give young adults (18s-30s), from all backgrounds, the space and time to test God’s calling on their lives. It offers the chance to experience practical ministry, enrich theological understanding and further personal development, all with ongoing support from peers and supervisors
The Ministry Experience Scheme in the Diocese of Leicester has three core elements:
- Missional placement – Placement churches provide a context for ministry, accommodation, and supervision. We have city, town, and rural placements across a range of church traditions.
- Training – We will work with you to find a suitable programme of study or vocational training. Options may include the New Wine Discipleship Year, a Future Youth placement lay ministry training or Diocesan courses.
- Support Network – Our aim is to create a network of support for each participant, including a placement supervisor, mentor, and access to Diocesan Vocations team. During the year we gather MES participants for quiet days, social events, and training (such as unconscious bias & antiracism training).
The scheme runs from early September to mid-July.
