In a move designed to encourage the mission work of local churches, the current Framland and Gartree I and II Deaneries are being reshaped and renamed. Two benefices in the south of Framland, including Launde Abbey, will join with the deeply rural parishes of Gartree I to form the Launde Deanery, while Market Harborough will join up with Oadby to form a deanery based around the A6 corridor, called the Gartree Deanery.
Revd Alison Booker will be Area Dean for Launde, with Revd Steve Bailey Area Dean for Gartree.
Alison highlighted the commitment to rural mission, saying “I am thrilled to see this become a reality and look forward to working with the people of our deeply rural part of the world to see our churches flourish so that all our villages experience the love of God – lots of prayer and cake is planned!”
Rt Revd. Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester, added his commendation, commenting “I’m delighted that the Deanery reshaping has already led to co-operation between parishes and new approaches to mission. I am very grateful to all those who have been involved in this process.”
Steve Bailey added “We are looking forward to working together in mission as the newly shaped Gartree Deanery for the sake of the many in our towns and villages who don’t yet know Jesus.’
