I am very pleased to receive the final report from the SCIE independent audit of our Cathedral Safeguarding. We were the fifth cathedral scrutinized as part of an audit of safeguarding in all English Church of England Cathedrals. The auditors agreed that we are seeking to embed Safeguarding throughout the Cathedral and as such ‘have set the bar high’. They have also identified a number of issues which will need to be considered further. We look forward to creating an action plan which will be published by 8 July 2019 and which we will then endeavor wholeheartedly to implement. We receive this Report as both encouragement that our work in this area is paying off as we embed a culture of inclusive care and we receive it as an encouragement to do more. This will include reaching out and learning from others and to keep supporting one another in our learning how to safeguard everyone especially the young and the vulnerable. The document is published on our website and can be made available as a printed version via a request form the Cathedral Office. Thank you to everyone who was involved with the preparation, the audit and the process which has led to the publication of this Report.
