Bishop Christopher has today announced that he will retire at the end of May 2017. He has been Assistant Bishop of Leicester since 2009 and has been the sponsoring bishop for new clergy as well as fulfilling a much valued pastoral ministry, caring for clergy and lay ministers and their families. He was formerly Bishop of Northern Malawi in the Province of Central Africa.
The Bishop of Leicester Martyn Snow commented “I am so grateful to Bishop Christopher for his wonderfully gracious welcome of me and my family when we arrived in Leicester in 2016. He made no secret of his plans to retire in 2017 and this has been very helpful in allowing us to start the long winded process of getting permission to appoint a new suffragan bishop. I know that his ministry in Leicester and Leicestershire has been deeply valued, and I am delighted to say that he will not be leaving us but will remain living in Leicestershire. After a well-earned break, I will be licensing him as an honorary assistant bishop in the diocese later in the year.” Bishop Christopher said, “I have valued so much the friendship and support I have known during my time as Assistant Bishop. The varied experiences have helped me continue to grow spiritually and in my discipleship. Thank you to all.”
The diocese will have an opportunity to thank Bishop Christopher for his ministry on Sunday 21st May at 3pm at Leicester Cathedral.
