A prayer-filled, passionate, and purposeful few days were had by a small team of leaders from the Diocese of Leicester who recently attended the Church of England networking conference ‘Being Built Together’ for UKME/Global Majority Heritage Anglicans.
Organised by the national Racial Justice Unit, the event in Derbyshire brought together peoople from across the country to encourage and affirm their work whilst learning more about the Racial Justice Unit and the ongoing efforts of the Archbishop’s Racial Justice Commission.
The event was an opportunity to connect with others from various Ethno-Cultural Networks and communities, engage in meaningful discussions with peers, and participate in prayer and worship.
Keynote speakers included Chine McDonald, author of God Is Not A White Man, and Bishop Lusa Nsenga-Ngoy, Bishop of Willesden and former BAME Mission and Ministry Enabler of Leicester.
Jessie Tang, diocesan Intercultural Ministry Director, said: “It was great to be amongst others in the CofE who are also passionate about racial equity, sharing stories and learning from one another. Bishop Lusa delivered a homily where we all did impromptu singing during it, and there was a strong sense of ‘joining up’ felt throughout our time together.
“It’s really important for the diocese to be involved in events such as these so we do not feel so alone in the realm of pursuing racial justice and equity - as we know others are - and can support and encourage each other.”
