Bishop blesses new wildlife wood planted by school children and their communities

School children have helped the community come together to create a new wildlife woodland for the parishes of Plungar, Barkestone, and Redmile.

Bishop Martyn visited for a special blesing service and learned how 80 children from Redmile CofE Primary School helped plant the trees last winter and local secondary children have been helping with the technology as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Ongoing work at Peacock Wood includes building a new bridge over the stream, creating pathways, installing picnic tables, planting bulbs and wildflower meadows, building bird boxes, bug and hedgehog hotels, and bat boxes.

The trees were provided by The Woodland Trust as part of their drive for 'Free trees for school s and communities'; more than 260 trees native to the UK have been planted by the school pupils and members of the wider community.
