On the eve of the coronation of King Charles III, the Right Reverend Saju Muthalaly, Bishop of Loughborough, said: “At this time where new beginnings and historical continuity converge, my prayer is that King Charles will be gifted by God with wisdom and discernment.
“I also give thanks for his passion for the wellbeing of young people, the environment and the richly diverse communities that make up our United Kingdom and the Commonwealth as he seeks to follow the example of Jesus, the “servant King” who came not to be served but to serve.”
Bishop Saju will be preaching at a confirmation service at St Peter’s, Higham-on-the-Hill on the Sunday of the Coronation weekend.
The church has its own royal connection, as the rectory was the birthplace and childhood home of Geoffrey Francis Fisher, 99th Archbishop of Canterbury, who presided at the funeral of George VI, coronation service of Queen Elizabeth II, and christened King Charles III. Geoffrey Fisher’s, father, grandfather and his older brother all served as vicar of St Peter’s, Higham-on-the-Hill.
Bishop Saju will also be preaching at the coronation service hosted by the Lieutenancy Office on Thursday 11 May at St Mary de Castro church in Leicester, where his sermon will focus on the theological significance of oil and anointing.
