Bishop Saju to support Coventry Diocese during Vacancy-in-See

As the Diocese of Coventry enters a period of Vacancy-in See, Bishop Saju has agreed to provide one day a week of support, serving as one of their Assistant Bishops.

Bishop Saju will work alongside Ruth Worsley, Bishop of Taunton, who will become Acting Bishop of Coventry, as well as Bishop Jonathan Meyrick, Bishop Edward Condry, and Bishop Paul Thomas, who will also serve as Assistant Bishops.

Bishop Saju will be dedicating the equivalent of one day a week to this role, starting from 9th November, with this arrangement lasting until a successor for Bishop Christopher Cocksworth, who is to become the Dean of Windsor, is appointed.

Bishop Saju will remain based in Leicester, with his usual activities, visits across the diocese, and responsibilities unaffected. He will continue to have particular oversight for:

  • Our ‘Intercultural Worshipping Communities’ programme and our Diocesan Racial Equity Strategy
  • Our New Communities strategic priority
  • Vocations and training

Bishop Christopher said, “I am very grateful to the Bishop of Leicester and the Bishop of Bath and Wells for their generosity in releasing their valued colleagues for this ministry and, of course, to Bishop Ruth and Bishop Saju for their willingness to step into the vacancy and support our Diocese through it. They will be a wonderful gift from God through whom much blessing will come."

Bishop Saju said, "I feel blessed to have this opportunity to serve, learn from, and journey with the Diocese of Coventry during its vacancy period. I hope to share what I learn from this experience with colleagues here in Leicester, so that both our dioceses can be mutually enriched, blessed and brought closer together in this period.”
