Yesterday (Sunday 16 January) saw the diocese bid a fond farewell to Lusa Nsenga Ngoy at a special service held at All Saints with Holy Trinity Church in Loughborough. The service was led by Bishop Martyn and Wendy Dalrymple, Rector of the Parish of All Saints, which is one of the diocese's designated Intercultural Worshipping Communities.
The service, was a farewell not only to Lusa, but also to his family, wife Mirjam and children as they prepare for Lusa's consecration as Bishop of Willesden and their move to London. Fittingly, the service mirrored something of the diversity of the diocese, with songs and readings in a number of languages. It also provided an opportunity to celebrate the work done in the diocese over the last few years as Lusa and his team have helped us to grapple with important issues around race and the Kingdom of God, and as we've taken our first steps into launching intentionally intercultural worshipping communities.
After the service Bishop Martyn commented “I give thanks to God for the great gift that Lusa has been to the Diocese of Leicester. He has enriched us greatly through his presence and his approach to intercultural worship and ministry. At times, he has challenged us and made us think differently about race and culture, but he has always done this in a way which has helped us to learn and to grow. I pray for him as he becomes a bishop in God’s church and helps to lead the Diocese of London.”
