Journeys in Faith Shared During February Confirmations

Journeys in faith and the desire to seek a closeness with God played a significant part in the services of confirmation that took place around the diocese during February.

A number of candidates were confirmed by our bishops in three church services.

It was a joyful occasion on Candlemas as Kate was confirmed by Bishop Martyn at St Peter’s Church in Wymondham.

The first confirmation of the month in the diocese, Kate was joined by family, friends and her church community to celebrate the journey of faith she has been on to get to this point.

Bishop Martyn led worship during a celebratory service of confirmation at St Mary’s in Elmsthorpe on Sunday 9 February, where two members of the church family, Rachel and Alice, were confirmed.

During the service they affirmed their faith in Jesus Christ by renewing their baptism vows and were anointed with oil - a sign of being inwardly ‘anointed’ and filled with the Holy Spirit.

It was very much a family occasion, as Rachel and Alice are mother and daughter. They were supported by other members of their family, some of whom had also been baptised and confirmed in November at St Simon and St Jude’s Church in Earl Shilton.

Later in the month, Ian and Lorraine were confirmed by Bishop Saju during a service At St Peter’s Church in Leire.

Lorraine, of the Leire congregation and Ian of the Hexagon Benefice, stood before their friends, families and church communities to make a further commitment in their faith stories.
