Joy and blessings at ordinations

After a pre-ordination retreat at Launde Abbey with Canon Theologian Cathy Ross, Director of Ordinands Sue Willetts, and our Bishops, who washed their feet on Thursday evening dutring the Eucharist,14 Priests and seven Deacons were ordained with inspiring services at St Margaret's Church, Leicester, and St Mary's, Melton Mowbray.

During the very moving sermons at each of the three ordination services this year, Bishop Saju literally took the Priests and Deacons on ‘the road to Emmaus’ from Luke Chapter 24 – each walking 'a mile' with him up the nave - as he highlighted seven points from the reading which relate to how we should minister in God’s church:

1. The nature of who God is – one who accompanies others – incarnation. 2. Questions – Jesus asked 307 questions – may we ask enquiring questions. 3. Liminal space – living in bewilderment. 4. Hospitality – the gospel comes with the keys to the house. 5. A story of discovery – as we discover may we help others to do the same. 6. The word made flesh – they were talking about Jesus – may we do also. 7. We are called by name – God knows and loves each of us.
