National recognition for church which provided a lifeline to families

The work of a team from St John the Baptist Church, Clarendon Park, Leicester has been recognised for providing a lifeline to families during a very difficult period when isolation was causing real harm during the pandemic.

Sharon Leeson, the Youth and Families worker at St Johns, along with the team of volunteers had organised and run a group for Mums of Little Ones and another for toddlers and their carers. Both clubs have since gone from strength to strength and they have seen more than 70 families getting involved.

A small team from St John the Baptist, Clarendon Park, attended a lunch at Church House in Westminster, celebrating the work of the five regional winners from around the UK. The Good News Church Competition is run by the insurance company, Ecclesiastical.  The St John's team were there as the Central Region winners and were accompanied by Phil Leech from our Generous Giving Team, representing our Diocesan Secretary Jonathan Kerry.

The overall winner of the competition was a group of churches from Truro diocese. Congratulations to everyone at St John the Baptist Church for their amazing work and well-deserved recognition.
