On Saturday 5 September young people from around Leicester and Leicestershire coordinated a Christian Climate Conference open to people from any faith background on Zoom.
Based on the feedback we've had from people involved and the organising team, it was a really helpful and exciting event! We welcomed a fantastic keynote speaker, Revd Grace Thomas, who reminded us of the importance of speaking truth to power, and attendees could choose from four fantastic workshops on some of the key climate issues. The event was opened and closed by inspirational young people from around the city and county as well as a fascinating panel discussion around the church and green recovery. We’re hopeful this will be a springboard for some new conversations around climate justice and Christian activism in the diocese, and help to build inter-denominational connections between local Christian youth and young adults.
Slides from the event can be found here along with a resource bank that has been put together by the team behind the event. It includes worship resources, recommended podcasts, books, films and online content. This resource bank links to many of the themes and workshop topics explored on the day but it is hoped it will be used widely by all in the diocese.
