St Mellitus College, East Midlands has expanded its provision in the East Midlands region at the invitation of its Sponsoring Bishops to begin a new part-time pathway for ordination training and theological education based at St Martins House in Leicester on Monday evenings.
This new pathway pioneers a hybrid model of training that combines in-person and online teaching, seeking to learn from the past season to build for the future. It is hoped that the pathway will increase the accessibility of theological study and ordination training in the region whilst complementing other existing training models and pathways.
David Emerton, Director of St Mellitus College East Midlands, said:
“We are very excited by, and deeply thankful for, the invitation to partner in the Gospel with the Dioceses of Derby, Southwell & Nottingham, and Leicester in this way, and we look forward to serving the mission and ministry of the Church in the region through our offering of part-time ordination training and wider part-time theological education opportunities.”
Jitesh Patel, Assistant Director of St Mellitus College Midlands, said:
“It has been such a joy to lead our first cohort of students as we pioneer this new mode of training, and I am very excited as to how it will help resource the local church and increase accessibility of theological training for those who seek to combine it with continued involvement in secular workplaces and other callings.”
Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester, and Chair of the St Mellitus East Midlands Advisory Board, said:
“We realise that flexibility is so important for people wanting to train for ministry and we believe this part-time pathway will open up possibilities for many people in the region. I am pleased that we are able to host this in Leicester working closely with the Nottingham centre for full-time training, and I look forward to seeing how this work grows and develops in the years to come.”
St Mellitus East Midlands opened in September 2019 and seeks to serve the mission and ministry of the Church in the region by offering full-time context-based ordination training, full-time and part-time undergraduate study, and part-time postgraduate study on Tuesdays in Nottingham, and part-time ordination training, as well as part-time undergraduate study on Monday evenings in Leicester.
