'Reclaiming Narratives' during Black History Month

Our Intercultural Worship team would like to encourage you and your church to engage with Black History Month:

This year's theme for Black History Month, ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, emphasises the importance of acknowledging people's identity in Christ and in their culture, as well as recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture.

It's crucial to retell the stories of African Caribbeans who contributed to the building of this country and our churches, especially in the Diocese of Leicester. This history doesn't just belong to Black people; it's the history of the United Kingdom as a whole.

This year we would like to honour Rt. Rev. Wilfred Denniston Wood KA, the first black bishop in the Church of England, who served as the Bishop of Croydon from 1985 to 2003. His exemplary life taught us the power of servant leadership. Read his story here.
