Every Saturday night in Loughborough, a small team walks the streets wearing blue uniforms and offering more than just a presence - they bring a ministry of care, compassion, and Christ’s love. These are the Loughborough Street Pastors, part of a national initiative founded by Ascension Trust, working in towns and cities across the UK and beyond.
Street Pastors are trained Christian volunteers from local churches who patrol town centres late at night to care, listen, and help. Whether it’s offering water to someone who’s had too much to drink, helping vulnerable people get home safely, providing flip-flops or space blankets, or simply being a calm, friendly presence - Street Pastors are there to show God’s love in practical ways, without judgement or agenda.
A Wider Network Across Leicestershire
Loughborough is just one of several Street Pastor teams across Leicestershire. There are also active teams in Leicester and across the county - each uniquely responding to the needs of their communities, but all united in a shared mission. These teams work in partnership with local churches, police, councils, and nighttime economy to make our streets safer and more compassionate places.
How You Can Support
Loughborough Street Pastors is currently seeking support in several areas:
- Street Pastors: If you’re a committed Christian with a heart for people, could you join the team on occasional Saturday nights? Full training and mentoring are provided.
- Prayer Pastors: Not everyone is called to be out on the streets - but every team needs spiritual backup. Prayer Pastors support patrols through dedicated prayer.
- Trustees: They’re also seeking new trustees to help guide the charity, ensuring it remains faithful, accountable, and sustainable.
- Prayer and Promotion: Please pray for the teams - for safety, wisdom, and meaningful encounters. And help raise awareness in your church or Christian community.
