The Climate Ambassadors Scheme is Recruiting Volunteers!

Do you have a passion for tackling climate change and want to help our educational settings put a climate action plan into progress?

The Climate Ambassadors Scheme is currently recruiting skilled volunteers to be Climate Ambassadors.

The role of a Climate Ambassador is to provide free support to educational settings (including early years, schools and colleges in England) to help develop and deliver impactful Climate Action Plans, wherever they are on their sustainability journey.

The plans cover four themes - Decarbonisation Adaptation & Resilience, Nature & Biodiversity, Climate Education, and Green Skills.

You don’t need to be an expert in all or any of these areas - you can focus your time working on things that align with your passion and experience - as you will be provided with the training and development to help you make the most of your skills.

Climate Ambassadors are made up of volunteers from all areas of expertise across the private, public, charity and university sectors.
You can give as little or as much of your time as you wish, but you should be willing to build a meaningful connection with the community at the education setting or settings you are linked to.

The project is funded by the Department for Education as part of its Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy which states that by 2025 all education settings in England are expected to have a designated sustainability lead and a climate action plan.

Leicester Diocesan Board of Education is encouraging adoption of this scheme by its church schools, but is inviting all school settings within the diocese to get involved, particularly as it connects to our Eco Communities priority.

For those who haven’t worked in an education setting before, all volunteers (after completion of applicable safer recruitment) will receive training on climate action plans and advice on applying their knowledge and skills in this context.

Why become a Climate Ambassador?

  • Tackle real-world sustainability and climate challenges.
  • Inspire meaningful change in your community.
  • Develop your own skills and knowledge.
  • Share your passion to inspire the next generation.

For more information, which you can also share with any school you may be connected to, see this summary or go to Climate Ambassadors.
