Three New Canons Installed at Leicester Cathedral

At a service of choral evensong on Sunday 28 January, three new honorary canons were installed at Leicester Cathedral, alongside the Rt Revd Saju Muthalaly, who was installed as Bishop of Loughborough.

The three new honorary canons are: Nathan Morley, Head Warden of the Cathedral; David Palmer who serves as Chair of Trustees for the Diocesan Board of Finance; and Revd Gill Pinnington, Area Dean for North-West Leicestershire and vicar of the benefice of Coalville with Bardon Hill and Ravenstone.

Revd Gill Pinnington said, "I am delighted to have been invited to be an Honorary Canon of Leicester Cathedral. It is indeed an honour and very humbling. Our cathedral has had many months of building renewal and there are exciting opportunities ahead for worship and outreach now it is fully open again. If I can be even a small part of that outreach, it will be my privilege."

David Palmer said, “It is a most unexpected honour and a privilege to be invited to become an Honorary Lay Canon of the Cathedral.  I look forward to becoming more involved in the life and work of the Cathedral over the coming years.”

Nathan Morley said, “I came to Leicester cathedral in 2015 as a member of the congregation before joining the serving team and then becoming the Chair of the Cathedral Social Committee. I am currently Head Warden and I look forward to serving God and the Cathedral in this new role as Honorary Canon.”

Bishop Saju became the Bishop of Loughborough in 2022, but his installation to the Cathedral due to its closure for renovation work.

Bishop Saju said: "Being installed as Bishop two years after being appointed in some ways makes it a more special occasion for me personally. In that time, I have come to know and cherish the Diocese - the people, places and parishes within it - and this service gives me a chance to reflect on all that I have learned, all of the ways I have seen God at work, and everything I am grateful for over that time, and to recommit again to my calling to serve the people of Leicester and Leicestershire as their suffragan Bishop".
