Bishop Guli will legally become the Bishop of Chelmsford later this week and there will be a farewell service for her livestreamed from Leicester Cathedral on 25 April at 3pm. Here are some further details:
On the 11 March at 5pm:
There will be a service of Confirmation of Election – a prayerful and historic ceremony in which Bishop Guli will legally become the Bishop of Chelmsford. It will be presided over by The Archbishop of Canterbury and take place on Zoom. A recording will be made available on the Chelmsford Diocese website for those who wish to view the ceremony later.
From 12 March to Easter Day:
Bishop Guli will complete her ministry as Bishop of Loughborough. Legal authority for oversight of Chelmsford Diocese will remain delegated to the Bishop of Barking until 19 April.
19 April onwards:
Bishop Guli will begin her ministry as Bishop of Chelmsford. She will move to Chelmsford Diocese with her family during the summer.
25 April at 3pm:
We have planned a Leaving Service for Bishop Guli with an invited congregation in the Cathedral. It will be livestreamed (all subject to changes pertaining to Covid19). It will take place on Sunday 25th April at 3pm. Details of the links will be published nearer the time - please look out for these in Diomail and Social Media after Easter.
Later in the year:
Bishop Martyn has said that it is hoped we can welcome Bishop Guli back to Leicester Cathedral to say our thank yous and farewells face to face at some point when the pandemic allows and it is also hoped that the public Welcome and Installation service for Bishop Guli in Chelmsford Cathedral will take place in September.
Honorary Assistant Bishops in the Diocese of Leicester:
Our Honorary Assistant Bishops - Rob Freeman, Christopher Boyle and Peter Fox – have generously agreed to provide additional support to the diocese whilst the process and timing around the appointment of a second Bishop of Loughborough is considered.
