Bishop Martyn spoke to BBC East Midlands reporter, Jeremy Ball, about building bridges between cultures at Christmas.
Bishop Martyn recently attended a high-level interfaith discussion in the House of Lords. Representatives of different faith communities were present, including the new Minister of State for Faith and Communities, Miatta Fahnbulleh, and the new interfaith adviser to the Prime Minister, Dilwar Hussain.
We are delighted to have 12 participants enrolled on the Church of England Ministry Experience Scheme this academic year. They will be serving a range of churches across the Diocese of Leicester and engaging with a breadth of ministry including children and youth work, social action, community engagement, schools, worship and creative media.
On Saturday 18 October the Diocese of Leicester hosted its first ever Black History Month concert, ‘The Sound of Power and Pride’, at HTL Church Leicester. Over 250 attendees were greeted with ambient tones of The Halls String Quartet.
In September, a diverse team made up of ordained, licensed, and lay members from the Diocese of Leicester, embarked on the first intercultural and intergenerational visit to our link dioceses in Tanzania - a journey that proved to be both formative and deeply moving.
Black History Month in the UK began in 1987 to share, celebrate and understand the impact of Black heritage and culture within society.
Bishop Martyn was recently invited to speak at a conference on “intercultural churches” in Bonn, Germany. The conference included people from the Diocese in Europe (part of the Church of England) and the Episcopal Church in Europe (part of the USA Episcopal Church).
