It’s Refugee Week 2024 (17-23 June) and this year's theme is centred around ‘Our Home’ - encouraging us to consider what true ‘home’ looks like and how we can create welcoming, safe and sustainable places for all.
On 9 May, clergy and lay leaders from across the diocese gathered in Belgrave for a Bishops’ Study Day on the theme of Intercultural Communities, led by Dr Harvey Kwiyani, a lecturer in African Christianity, and Founder and Director of Missio Africanus, an intercultural mission training initiative.
Eating pizza and pondering the important questions of life, faith, relationships and culture, were high on the agenda when the Young Adults group from the Church of the Martyrs in Leicester invited Bishop Martyn along to one of their gatherings recently.
Beyond the Bump, a postnatal support group run by St Peter’s and Christ Church Mountsorrel is helping new parents make friends, learn about caring for their baby, and starting conversations about faith.
Jan Barlow was licensed and welcomed to St Paul’s Church in Oadby on Sunday 7 April, during a joyously intercultural service marking new beginnings and a commitment to shared ministry.
St Andrew’s has introduced the Saturday Vigil Mass – an early evening, short service at 6pm, to meet the needs of it growing church community.
On Saturday 9 March, the Very Revd Canon Rooms was installed by Bishop Martyn as the new Dean of Leicester.
Bishop Martyn writes in the Oxford Journal for Intercultural Mission about our diocese’s journey in developing intercultural worshipping communities and his personal journey to becoming more aware of racial injustice in the Church and the wider world.
On Saturday 27 January, nearly a hundred leaders from across the diocese gathered for a discernment morning to shape and guide the development of our diocesan strategy.
Next month we are holding a diocesan vocations day, as an opportunity for people to explore their sense of calling.
