A community gathering to exchange thoughts and feelings and explore how Leicester can continue to grow as an ‘intercultural city’ was hosted by Leicester Cathedral on Monday (3 March).
Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England, spent the day in the Diocese of Leicester visiting children in a local Church of England school and finding out about the significant interfaith work going on in the city.
The Revd Dr Vijay Kumar led a ‘deeply moving and spirit-filled’ prayer walk in the Belgrave area of the diocese.
The St Philip’s Centre’s ‘Religion & Belief Roadshow’ rolled into Fleckney Church of England Primary School recently, inviting the children to learn about a range of faiths and cultures in a fun and interactive way.
Across the diocese, our churches and schools have been holding services and taking part in civic and community events to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Christians from the Diocese of Leicester were recently involved in an act of solidarity to offer support and loving service to asylum seekers living in their local community.
Up and down the diocese our worshipping communities are running holiday play schemes, cafés, craft events and camps, making vital connections between church and children and offering loving service to the community.
Sparkenhoe East Deanery Synod recently welcomed special guests, in partnership with the St Philip’s Centre, to an evening of interfaith encounter at St Philip and St James Church in Ratby.
The Very Revd Karen Rooms, Dean of Leicester, and the Rt Revd Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester, are delighted to announce that the Revd Dr Sarah Siddique Gill, currently Vicar of the United Benefice of St. Stephen with St. James, Blackburn and Assistant Archdeacon in the Diocese of Blackburn, has been appointed as the new Canon Missioner for Leicester Cathedral.
Bishop Saju visited Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurudwara in Leicester, together with Tom Wilson from the St Philip’s Centre.
