October was an inspiring month for the diocese’s Resourcing Churches, with a number of spiritually unifying gatherings taking place in our church communities.
Parish Safeguarding Coordinators (PSCs), Churchwardens, members of Clergy and Lay Ministers came together with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team and Adrienne Plunkett, Independent Chair of Safeguarding, for the annual online Diocese of Leicester Safeguarding Conference on Saturday 8 November.
St Mary’s Church in Lutterworth is celebrating a remarkable year of growth, connection, and compassion through the work of the Churchgate Community Centre, which continues to be a vibrant hub for people aged five to 95.
The Revd Dr Tom Wilson, Director of the St Philip’s Centre, has written a book titled Safer Faiths, Safer Followers: Understanding and Countering Spiritual Abuse in Faith Communities.
Remembrance Sunday was marked by church and community around the diocese yesterday, with poppy cascades, parades, and services including those led by the Bishop of Leicester and the Bishop of Loughborough.
We are delighted to be able to share a round-up of confirmations which took place within our worshipping communities during the month of October, and the few weeks either side.
Anyone can be involved in prayers for remembering, whether in church or at home. All you need for this simple prayer is a poppy each.
Bishop Martyn recently attended a high-level interfaith discussion in the House of Lords. Representatives of different faith communities were present, including the new Minister of State for Faith and Communities, Miatta Fahnbulleh, and the new interfaith adviser to the Prime Minister, Dilwar Hussain.
We are delighted to have 12 participants enrolled on the Church of England Ministry Experience Scheme this academic year. They will be serving a range of churches across the Diocese of Leicester and engaging with a breadth of ministry including children and youth work, social action, community engagement, schools, worship and creative media.
This year the theme of the Safeguarding Sunday campaign is ‘Action Speaks Louder’ – encouraging churches to not just talk about safeguarding but to take positive action towards creating safer places.
